Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have demonstrated that resveratrol can prevent the growth of abnormal blood vessels (and eradicate already mutated blood vessels) in eyes. The proliferation of abnormal eye blood vessels is believed to be responsible for age related macular degeneration – a major cause of blindness in seniors.
Further, the researchers reported that resveratrol also prevented abnormal blood vessel growth outside the eye. For its part, abnormal blood vessel growth has been linked to heart disease and cancer (among other diseases).
