Noteworthy Findings In Human Resveratrol Study

A high dose human resveratrol study has revealed several interesting findings. In the study, eight healthy human subjects were given two 2000 mg. doses of pure resveratrol per day (4 grams). The study determined that 500 mg. of quercetin twice daily did not improve the bioavailability of the 4 grams of resveratrol (bioavailability - in essence, the amount of drug that reaches the circulatory system).  Further, resveratrol taken with alcohol did not improve resveratrol’s bioavaility either. Finally, resveratrol taken with a “high fat” breakfast reduced its bioavailability.
In sum, to avoid reducing the bioavailability of resveratrol it should not be consumed at the same time as a high fat breakfast. Further, resveratrol supplements that also include quercetin (there are several well know supplements that fit this description) might not have better resveratrol bioavailability than plain resveratrol.
