Sirtris Reports that Resveratrol Directly Activates SIRT1
A new study published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry by Sirtris Pharmaceuticals (a wholly owned subsidiary of Glaxo Smith Kline) reveals that resveratrol and GSK’s new chemical entities (NCE’s) do in fact activate the SIRT1 gene.
These results fly in the face of previous Amgen and Pfizer studies which asserted that the Sirtris studies were the victim of a test tube artifact (Amgen and Pfizer concluded that resveratrol and the NCE’s only activated SIRT1 in the presence of fluorescent molecules). Sirtris’s new study shows that resveratrol and the NCE’s activate SIRT1 WITHOUT the presence of the fluorescent molecules.
